Graeme has been a lay member of Court since 2018 and sits on the Audit and Risk Committee as well as the Ordinances and Regulations Committee. He is currently a non-executive director and member of the Audit and Risk Committee of Transport Scotland, the national transport agency. He is also a charity trustee of Keep Scotland Beautiful, a national environmental charity. After studying geology, Graeme worked in the oil industry for around ten years as a geophysicist in the UK and overseas. He was attracted by a campaign to recruit scientists from industry into the civil service and joined HM Treasury.
After seven years in Whitehall, Graeme returned to Scotland to work for what has now become the Scottish Government. He held several roles there, including Director of Industry and Energy and, for some six years, Director of Healthcare Integration. In 2011, he was appointed as Director General Enterprise, Environment and Innovation in the Scottish Government. He held this position until May 2016 when he left to return to study Carbon Management at the University of Edinburgh. He has undertaken several non-executive roles since then.
Graeme has an interest in climate change adaption and migration. His wider interests and hobbies include cooking, growing food, walking, cross country skiing and the arts.
