Raffaella Ocone, Professor of Chemical Engineering of Heriot-Watt University has today (Thursday October 17) been announced as one of the top 100 Most Influential Women in the Engineering Sector.
The list, produced by board appointments firm Inclusive Boards in partnership with the Financial Times, will be officially released at the Inclusive Boards: Women in Engineering Leadership Conference on October 22nd. Inclusive Boards will also be publishing extensive research into engineering in the UK as well as the results of their diversity survey of the UK's top 500 engineering firms by revenue.
Professor Ocone, said: “I am both humbled and thrilled to feature as one of the top 100 Most Influential Women in Engineering. This honour is hugely enhanced for me when I see some of the other outstanding colleagues on the list. Some very influential people have had great relevance on my choices and achievements since I was a child. They have greatly influenced my life and my career and have contributed enormously to making my ambitions come true.
"In the future, I am committed to inspiring our younger generation, especially young women, to study engineering and to be amazed by the world of opportunities that engineering offers.”
Development Director Elizabeth Oni-Iyiola said: “Engineers have an impact on almost every area of our day to day lives. Raffaella and those featured today are role models who inspire those around them and demonstrate leadership and influence in the work that they do.”
Those featured include senior leaders from top engineering firms such as Amey, Arup, BAE Systems, and Laing O'Rourke.
