Heriot-Watt University has been named as the world’s 301st best university, according to the latest edition of the world’s leading university ranking.

The seventeenth (17th) edition of the QS World University Rankings, released today (Wednesday, 10 June) by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, has seen Heriot-Watt rise 13 places year-on-year.

Heriot-Watt now ranks 35th out of the 49 UK universities and has risen to 6th out of the eight Scottish universities and 128th in Europe.

The improvement in the ranking is mostly driven by continuing improvement in the Citations per Faculty measure, which has risen to 219th in the world, up from 290th last year.

Heriot-Watt is in the UK’s top 20 universities for this measure (up from 35th last year) and 4th in Scotland (up from 5th)

The highest scoring measures again relate to proportion of international staff and students with the maximum score of 100 in the measure of International Faculty – the only Scottish university to do so – along with 44 other institutions worldwide, of which five are in the UK.

The University ranked 84th in the world for International Students, the 26th highest UK university and 5th highest in Scotland.

Professor Richard A. Williams, University Principal and Vice Chancellor, said, “Heriot-Watt University has a remarkable foundation of researchers, scholars, academic leaders and students who are all dedicated to their subjects. Our continued success in league tables reflects our passion for pioneering learning and global research-informed education.

The continued recognition of our high quality teaching and research across a range of disciplines underlines our reputation as one of the world's leading universities, and stands as testament to the hard work from all our colleagues in our five campuses in three countries.”
