Graduations are a highlight of the University experience but, due to the ongoing global pandemic, we regret to announce that we have taken the decision to rearrange our summer graduation ceremonies in Scotland, Dubai and Malaysia for later in 2020.

In a communication to final year students in the Class of 2020, the University’s Academic Registrar said:

“I would like to share my disappointment at having to take this decision. We are taking this step to protect the health and wellbeing of students and our University community.

We are now planning to hold additional ceremonies at the end of this year so, as part of our class of 2020, you will still be able to celebrate your successes together, to meet up with friends and cross the graduation stage in your academic gown. But if that period isn’t convenient you will have the opportunity to attend any ceremony in the next two years. I look forward to seeing you at one of our future graduation ceremonies.”

Alternative graduation dates are now being rearranged this winter in each of our campus locations. As a global University, Heriot-Watt already allows graduates to attend whichever ceremony is most convenient, so the freedom exists to choose whichever location and date best suits each individual and their guests.

In the meantime, graduation certificates will be delivered to graduates directly this summer. The graduation website will be updated from 15th April with more information on when and how this will happen. Graduates can also refer to the Higher Education Degree Datacheck - HEDD. This is a fast and secure way for your future employers in any country to verify, with individual’s permission, the degree award online without having to provide a physical certificate.
