Despite incredibly challenging conditions across all industry sectors, Heriot-Watt is delighted to be teaming up with a new employer partner.

Bilfinger UK - one of the largest industrial engineering companies, supporting customers across the oil & gas, energy & power, nuclear and chemical/pharmaceutical sectors - is partnering with Heriot-Watt to offer Graduate Apprenticeships to their employees.

HWU has a worldwide reputation for providing first-class education that is aligned with the needs of industry.

Bilfinger is committed to training workers through apprenticeships in a range of skills including mechanical engineering. 19-year-old Euan Reid from Falkirk will be the first Bilfinger apprentice to start his degree level programme at Heriot-Watt in September.

Sandy Murray Director of Graduate Apprenticeships at HWU, said: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Bilfinger, with their first Graduate Apprentice set to join us here in September. Bilfinger’s commitment and ethos to working within a trusted partnership is well respected. We’re also looking forward to welcoming Euan as part of the next GA cohort.“

Bilfinger’s Keith Tollerton, said: “We anticipate many benefits of working in partnership with Heriot-Watt to offer the Graduate Apprenticeships to our team. HWU has a worldwide reputation for providing first-class education that is aligned with the needs of industry.”

Euan was able to choose which University to attend based on what he felt was best fit with his personal and work objectives. He opted for HWU as he was impressed with the university’s enthusiasm to take on and progress an individual’s understanding of engineering whilst still relating to industry needs through the course modules.

Euan said: “I chose Heriot-Watt because from the initial introductory meeting I felt as though I would be heavily supported and guided accordingly by all staff in order for me to achieve the best possible grades. Heriot-Watt University has a great community feeling and is respected by all as one of the top engineering universities in the country and that’s why I view it as an honour to attend such a great establishment."
