Feedback on coursework policy
The University is committed to providing identical academic standards for students and creating a learning environment which delivers timely feedback to you. From the start of the Academic Year 2015/16, a maximum 3 teaching weeks turnaround, under normal circumstances, for the return of feedback on assessed coursework will be in effect. This policy applies to students studying on all Heriot-Watt University programmes of study and does not cover examinations.
Closing the feedback loop – why we need this policy
You often tell the University that you value feedback which is timely and allows you to use it for future assessments and learning. We are responding to feedback from students provided in surveys such as National Student Survey (NSS).
Your school will also have its own approaches to providing feedback, which may be specific to your subject area.
For some pieces of assessment, such as large-scale projects or dissertations, this policy may not apply.
What next?
The Learning and Teaching Board is currently consulting with students and academic colleagues on key feedback principles which ought to apply for all Heriot-Watt University programmes of study. This is based on the Learning and Teaching Strategy (2013-2018) key objectives around reshaping the learning environment, developing staff and enhancing student learning.
By providing feedback through student surveys, you are making a difference.
