After completing her honours degree Lucy decided to transfer to the MEng to further her education at Heriot-Watt. She graduated from the MEng Architectural Engineering programme in June, 2013 and started working at DSSR the week after her last exam.

Can you tell us about your current job?

I am currently working on BREEAM reports for various projects including schools and hospitals which involve meetings and site visits. Eventually I will be advising clients on sustainability issues and technologies, holding meetings, working on feasibility studies and daylighting analysis reports. DSSR promotes a Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) approved training and development scheme which will enable me to gain a multitude of skills through numerous training days.

My overall experience at Heriot-watt is unforgettable.

What was your experience of doing a degree at Heriot-Watt University?

During my time at Heriot-Watt, I found the course extremely interesting yet challenging in some areas. The lecturers were all fab and great to talk to which made going to them with any problems a lot easier! My overall experience at Heriot-watt is unforgettable due to the support from my family, friends and the university itself.

Do you think your Heriot-Watt experience gave you an edge in your chosen field and why?

The Architectural Engineering degree covers a multitude of areas. I have now began my career with the knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering, human factors, sustainability issues, safety management, design and much more which I feel gave me a competitive edge which helped me secure a job with DSSR.

What advice would you give to a student considering embarking on their studies at Heriot-Watt?

Make the most of it because the 4/5 years fly by! Also, remember to maintain a balance between studying, socialising and time for yourself, and ALWAYS remember to ask for help!
