Professor Tadhg O'Donovan

Chief Scientist

The role of Chief Scientist is one of the most senior at Heriot-Watt University. The two-year fixed position is key to representing the University in high-level dialogue with government, policy makers and funders – and key to making change happen.

Professor Tadhg O'Donovan was appointed Chief Scientist in 2023, taking over from Professor Michel Kaiser, who held the role since 2020. A leading figure in Green Technology, his remit focuses on his expertise in Green Technology and he will promote the University’s global research, translating it into practise and working with partners – both industrial and governmental – and key funding institutions from a wide range of areas such as green tech finance, charitable foundations, and potential campaign donors.

As we look to build on our legacy connections made at COP28, the urgency of this critical moment amplifies the importance of working collaboratively. Together, we can play a critical role in creating a more sustainable future for generations to come.
