Monitoring and Review
The quality and academic standards of all the University's awards are assured through three key assurance processes: Annual Monitoring and Review; Periodic Review; External Review.
Annual Reviews
All of the University's academic provision (including programmes delivered in conjunction with partners) is monitored on an annual basis through:
Periodic Reviews
Periodic reviews take a deeper look at academic quality and standards over a longer cycle. These include Academic Audits, Academic Reviews and Professional Services Reviews, which evaluate the effectiveness of Schools, partners, and services in supporting the student learning experience.
External Reviews
Heriot-Watt University is subject to external scrutiny by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). The QAA’s Tertiary Quality Enhancement Review (TQER) process provides independent evaluation of how we maintain academic standards and enhance the student experience across all our campuses.
We also participate in the QAA’s Quality Assurance of Transnational Education (QE-TNE) Scheme, which reviews the quality of our provision delivered outside the UK.
In addition, our campuses and partners are accredited and regulated by overseas agencies, including the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Dubai. These accreditations ensure our programmes meet the expectations of local regulators and continue to deliver a high-quality student experience globally.
